Competency Tests

Players must complete the relevant competency test before progressing to the next colour stage. Select the appropriate test below to learn more.

Red Competency Test
Red III → Orange I

Assessment for players completing the Red stage.

Orange Competency Test
Orange III → Green I

Assessment for players completing the Orange stage.

Requirement Uncalibrated / Orange III players

Consistency, directional control, and match-play readiness.

Green Competency Test
Green IV → Grand Prize

Assessment for players completing the Green stage.

Reward Awarded 7.5 STA U12 Points
Focus

Rally tolerance, directional control, and match-play readiness.

How it works

1) Eligibility

Uncalibrated / Red III / Orange III

2) Register

Select your test and submit the form

3) Attend

Arrive 10 mins early on your scheduled test dates

4) Outcome

Results to be shared with participants a week after their test

FAQ

How do I know if my child is ready?

When you’ve reached the rating cap for your current colour stage, you may take the competency test to move up.

If we don’t pass, what happens?

You will remain in your current colour stage and may sign up again during the next competency test window. For uncalibrated players, you will be calibrated to Red I after the test.

Can I change my slot?

Yes. Please contact STA early so the slot can be reallocated.

What happens after passing the test?

Players who pass the competency test will progress to the next colour stage and may compete at their respective coloured stage competitions.

How long does the competency test take?

The competency test typically lasts around 20 minutes. Players will be assessed through a combination of drills, rally exercises, and point play situations.
