Red Competency Test

This assessment is for players who are completing the Red stage and are ready to be evaluated for progression to Orange I. Review the criteria below and register when ready.

Technical Readiness

These questions assess stroke fundamentals, ball contact, control, and the ability to begin and manage basic points safely and consistently.

Sustains a forehand rally of at least 6 consecutive shots with control.

Achieves clean contact on approximately 70% of rally shots during cooperative rallies.

Adjusts swing size appropriately to ball speed on most feeds.

4

Controls basic volleys successfully on at least 6 of 10 attempts.

5

Starts points independently on at least 5 of 10 attempts.

Rally & Ball Control

These questions look at consistency, direction, rally management, and whether the player can keep play going with control and intent.

Sustains a cooperative rally of 8–10 consecutive shots at least once per session.

Maintains forehand-to-forehand and backhand-to-backhand rallies of at least 3 shots.

Attempts a more assertive rally ball on 2–3 easier balls per session.

4

Maintains cross-court rally direction for at least 6 consecutive shots.

5

Demonstrates consistent rallying performance with different partners or feeds.

Movement & Physical Readiness

These questions assess balance, recovery, footwork coordination, movement efficiency, and the ability to sustain effective play safely.

Moves efficiently to the ball and recovers to a ready position on most rally shots.

Stops, hits, and recovers with balance on most shots.

Controls forward movement to shorter balls on most opportunities.

Coordinates footwork and stroke timing on most rallies.

Sustains effective movement for 5–7 minutes of continuous play.

Game Understanding

These questions focus on point structure, scoring, court awareness, decision-making, and whether the player can play Red games with independence.

Follows correct point structure (start, rally, finish).

Applies court boundaries and in/out calls correctly.

Makes simple decisions between safe rallying and assertive play.

Completes short games without coach intervention.

Plays Red games independently and confidently.

Mental & Behavioural Readiness

These questions assess focus, resilience, emotional control, independence, and the player’s readiness to take on greater challenge responsibly.

Final progression decisions will be based on the official assessment criteria used by the coaching team.
